My name is Mike Sankovich. My wife Katherine and I have been married for 39 years. We vacationed on Seabrook Island in the late 90s with our two children, and fell in love with the area. We bought a Summerwind Cottage in 2014 and moved here full-time in January 2019.
We are now retired. I worked on Wall Street for nearly 36 years in the Sales and Trading departments of major investment banking firms: Salomon Brothers, JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch, and Cantor Fitzgerald. My focus included bank regulations and accounting, balance sheet management, and derivatives.
While on Seabrook Island, I have been on various SIPOA committees: Activities, the Newcomers Reception Subcommittee, and the Chair of Architectural Review Committee for two years. I am currently Vice President of SIPOA and have been Vice Chair for the Finance Committee, and Chair of the Safety and Security Committee. I was also on the committee to find a replacement for our recent SIPOA Executive Director.
We need to ensure that our facilities and homes remain first-class and complementary to Seabrook Island’s natural beauty. With some forward-thinking and hard work, I think we can find that balance between needing to accommodate a larger population and the comforts and pleasures we on Seabrook Island are entitled to. I think my past experience will help us find this balance, and my background is well-suited to being a member of the Nominating Committee.
