A friend introduced me and my wife, Denise, to Seabrook Island in 2011, and we were so impressed that we bought our home on Up Da Creek in 2012. We created many happy memories on the island with family and friends over the next decade. After a 40-year corporate career that took our family around the country, I retired in 2022, and we became full-time residents of Seabrook Island. I still keep a hand in the corporate world through board involvement, but my emphasis has shifted more to family, friends, community, and an active lifestyle. As much as we’ve come to enjoy Seabrook Island’s amenities, we enjoy the new friendships that we’ve made even more.
My corporate experience included leadership roles in businesses ranging from $15 million of revenue to nearly $4 billion. Along the way, I learned about the value of communication, accountability, relationships, and fiscal responsibility. I understand the contributions that leaders can make, sometimes making difficult decisions, and sometimes rolling up your sleeves and contributing directly. I enjoyed being a part of collaborative groups that seek continuous improvement while listening to others and respecting different points of view. I hope you’ll give me the opportunity to put this experience to work for our island.
Denise and I have always supported our local communities, and we threw ourselves fully into Seabrook Island after I retired. My experiences to date include serving on (1) SIPOA’s Long Range Planning and General Operations and Maintenance committees; (2) Seabrook Island Club’s Finance Committee; and (3) Town of Seabrook Island’s Special Finance and ATAX committees. I also joined the Exchange Club. My committee work on the island helps me to see the key priorities and challenges across all three governance entities, and I will join the SIPOA Board with a good foundational understanding of how our island operates.
Seabrook Island and SIPOA are each on a solid improvement path. I have seen firsthand how we protect and maintain our infrastructure, expand amenities, and improve service levels – all in a fiscally responsible way. We have all benefited from the improvement in communications from SIPOA to our Property Owners. I will contribute my skills and experiences to SIPOA’s Board for effective, responsive governance, ensuring that we stay focused on cost-effectively meeting our primary responsibilities to Property Owners. The Master Plan presents another opportunity to improve our quality of life, and I will help to balance the need for reinvestment and renewal with reasonable fiscal boundaries.
I have been impressed with how the SIPOA Board listens to owners and creates thoughtful annual objectives that support its vision: to be an idyllic ocean-front environment where neighbors collaborate to sustain and renew our island’s natural beauty and experience a wonderful quality of life. If you elect me to the Board, I will strongly support this vision.
