Volunteer: Respite Care

Organization Name: Respite Care Charleston

Volunteer Tasks: Tuesdays and Thursdays – 10:00am – 1:50pm. Program Companions (approx. 4 hours once a week) enjoy the company of participants and volunteers as a 1:1 program companion for an individual with dementia during the 4 hour respite program. Help participants engage in music, art exercise, and meals by providing visual and verbal cues as you participate in the same activities with the group. Activity Leaders (45min -1 hour once a month, quarter, or year +/-) lead art, music, exercise, conversational activities, service projects, or other projects that match your interests and provide structured socialization with a purpose for the group.

Volunteer Tasks: Physicians, nurses, office personal to greet and schedule patients, evaluate electronic scheduling and medical record, file, etc. Spanish interpreters

Organization Mission: To provide quality health care free to all persons between ages 18 and 65 who have no health insurance . The earned income for a single person or family will be no higher than 200% of the federally determined poverty level . Roper-St. Francis provides free laboratory and imaging to our patients who meet this requirement. We also have a cadre of private physicians and surgeons who will see consultations gratis.
